Goodbye Sunflowers!

The next room to have a makeover is the kitchen:

No time for sleeping in this weekend, it was time to tackle the kitchen wallpaper and say so-long to the sunflowers.

What a surprise to find that under the wall paper was bright baby blue paint! The wallpaper was stuck pretty fast and the top layer was a thick vinyl-like surface so it required peeling off of that layer first and then lots of water and scraping to get the adhesive layer off.

Overall a very satisfying result achieved! Now it just needs a sand to get rid of the lumps and bumps and some bogging up of some holes before we can start painting.

The kitchen already feels bigger without the sunflower frieze. You can see the new paint colour in the background (through the doorway into the lounge). We can't wait to see it in the kitchen!

We are also considering painting the tiles. Has anyone painted tiles before? You see them do it often on TV renovation shows like The Living Room, but you can never really see the final quality. The tiles are pretty dated, it would be nice to see them a crisp shiny white again!
